The decision to look for a new interim coach is reportedly due to Bruno Saltor's desire to leave his post. As 90min reported on Wednesday, Bruno wants to remain loyal to Potter - the man who helped him get into coaching after retiring as a player in 2019.

Crucial to the smooth running of negotiations was Lampard's willingness to return to the club where he spent 13 years as a player.

Although Lampard has accepted an interim role, it is said that he still sees himself as a manager and would like to find a permanent post, but he is more than happy to help the Blues for now.

Luis Enrique arrives in England for talks with Chelsea

While Lampard is expected to be named interim coach, 90min reported on Wednesday that former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique has flown to England with his agents to discuss a permanent coaching job with Chelsea FC.

The club also said it will hold talks with Julian Nagelsmann this week.
